Do primes become less common in higher numbers?

seems intuitive that they do... im not a mathfag though.

YOU ABSOLUTE FUCKING MORONS! OF COURSE THEY ARE LESS COMMON IN HIGHER NUMBERS! IF YOU EVEN KNOW THE FUCKING DEFINITION OF A PRIME NUMBER THIS WOULD BE OBVIOUS TO YOU!

Intuition is immensely helpful in math, but it proves nothing. That was the entire point of the thread.

>Intuition is immensely helpful in math, but it proves nothing.
except this time it is fucking obvious,
as you are consecutively counting up the integers, for the next number to be prime it has to NOT be a multiple of any of the primes that have come before. As you keep going, you pass more primes, so there are more primes that you have passed than there were earlier.
Because there are more options of the next integer to be a multiple of an earlier prime, this makes it more unlikely, hence why primes becomes rarer as you go.
simply see the difference between primes counting upwards to see that this is the case.
1,2,2,4,2,4,2,4,6,2,6,4,2,4,6,6,2&#4

...notice how the differences get bigger as you go along.

I think there's some sort of proof in there.

The reason we do proofs, is that though certain of being right, there exists still the potentiality of being in error, and though this probability is miniscule our inquiry is a thousandfold justified by the wisdom gained in that instance.

and infinity is not a number, but even if it was, then there have been infinite primes before it, therefore no more primes exist after this point. (you have counted so high that they are infinitely rare)

>> No.4319033

>>4319021
prove it formally. this isn't zoology. only hard math and science on this board. reported.

>> No.4319041 [DELETED]

>>4319033
and yet zoology is demonstrably more difficult than the concept of primes becoming rarer the higher you go, which this fucking /b/tard OP still seems to struggle with.
Morons like you shouldnt even be on my board.

Not a proof, but it gets the point across:
<div class="math">\pi(x) \approx li(x)
\frac{d}{dx}(li(x)) = \frac{1}{ln(x)}
\lim_{x \to +\infty} \frac{1}{ln(x)} = 0</div>
Thus, large primes are less frequent.

Langtons ant is a function that begins looking like it's irrational then after a certain value, it repeats in a very ordered pattern. Just because it seems to obey a certain pattern near a point does not mean that the entire function obeys that same pattern as x->infinity.

A bit late and too lazy to read the thread, but the number of primes between 0 and n is equivalent to n/(ln n) (in the sense of equivalent sequences).
