This question made me chuckle a little, do you really think that scientific advancement have any value when you are dead? do you expect mankind to evolve into some sort of super society like in Star Trek? As an independent, fairly intelligent woman, how do you expect us to believe you?

I would ask you to submit some timestamp pic, but you would undoubtedly refuse. So why should we believe you? And even more importantly, why should we take you seriously?

Physics/math major here. My parents and my sister share my genes but aren't literate in science. They still were a pretty decent family, though my interest in science was mainly inspired by teachers.
So I don't plan to have children, but I hope to inspire other people to get interested in science.

There are many threads on /sci/ that don't discuss science directly, but discuss subjects of interest to scientists/those interested in science.

Don't like it then don't post in those threads.

The only reason any of us are alive and here today is because of our selfish genes tendency to replicate and combine themselves in new ways, who am I to "choose" against this path? natural selection has lead human beings to where we are today and has given us our reasoning abilities to do science and ask questions like the one posted.

As a scientist I answer yes. Although I do not completely understand the genes role in what makes a person interested in science, I do believe I must do my part in continuing the unbroken thread that has lead the universe to create "me". Call me selfish if you must, but I am a married, 21 year old, science minded person that has his first child on the way and I feel my actions/choices are aligned precisely as they should.
