What do you think? I get 4.5m/s while my professor says it's 2.25m/s. I consider this highly illogical since the average speed can't be below the lowest speed in the chart.

>> No.4216604

this is 4.5m/s

what is this, AS mechanics or something?

>> No.4216607

He's wrong. Maybe some calculation error.

2.25*2 = 4.5, indeed

yeah, doing some calculus for a friend

thanks for the answers though, appreciate it.

>> No.4216625

it would be the area below the lines divided by 4 which is 4.5

>> No.4216638

average speed = distance travelled / time

distance travelled is area under graph so

distance = 4*2 + 1/2(4 + 6) * 2 = 8+10 = 18m

time = 4 s

18/4 = 4.5 m/s

if you need to use calculus to solve it, you can display the equation as two integrals
, as the integral is the area under the curve

the integral of y = 4 for 0 > x > 2 [4x]
plus the integral of y = x + 2 for 2 > x > 4 [1/2x^2 + 2x]

all over t

so [4*2] + [(16/2 + 8) - (4/2 + 4)] all over 4
8 + [16 - 6] all over 4

18/4 = 4.5

that's fucking lame
S1 = v*t where t = 2s
S2 = a*t^2 where t = 2s
S = S1+S2
S = v*t where t = 4s
v = S/t where t = 4s

NO FUCKING HOMEWORK THREADS!!
