Engineers are testing a new material to be used as support cables for a bridge. In a laboratory test, the breaking force for a sample of the material of diameter 0.50mm is 240N. Estimate the breaking force for a cable of diameter 15 mm made from the same material.

Is there a formula for this?????

Not even physics.....

This is really simple op. The question is assuming a totally linear scale. If 0.5mm gives you 240N, how many 0.5mm are in 15?

then work it out then

i don't give a fking shit if its simple, i just want to fking know how to do it .l dflnver/fvmndf;v

3*240 if its proportional to diameter, 9*240 if its proportional to cross section area, anything else*240 if i dont know what the fuck im talking about

wrong

stress=force/area
240/(pix0.0005^2/4)
then you have the breaking stress and rearrange with the new area

I think thats right.

The breaking force is proportional to the relative diameter squared.

F/f = D^2/d^2
F/240N = 15^2 /0.5^2
F= 240(15^2/0.5^2)

Fuck, you do the math, I'm too drunk.
