"Back in 2005, three researchers described and named a very unusual crab from a hydrothermal vent in the Indian Ocean . The scientists christened this crustacean Kiwa hirsuta from the name of the goddess of shellfish in Polynesian mythology and the Latin hirsutus meaning hairy. The later specifically referring some very hairy claws indeed."

"At the National Ignition Facility at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, in California, scientists are using 192 lasers and 500 trillion watts of power in an attempt to fuse hydrogen, to create miniature stars. These lasers are all focused on a tiny cylinder of beryllium, called a hohlraum, that contains a mixture of deuterium and tritium — hydrogen isotopes — and when the switch is thrown, the isotopes are heated to 100 million degrees centigrade for 20 nanoseconds… and they fuse."

"In this striking image -- an image that will likely become one of the (many) landmark photographs of the final months of the shuttle fleet -- an orbiting satellite snapped Atlantis during its short "rollover" from the Orbiter Processing Facility-1 to the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) at Kennedy Space Center, Fla, on Tuesday. The towering VAB (center) dwarfs the shuttle (to the right of the VAB)."

"It was taken by Lori Mazzuca in Hawaii. She said that the dolphin and humpback whale were playing gently together. The game seemed to be about how long the dolphin could stay atop the whale's head while the whale swam. When the dolphin finally slipped off it joined another dolphin and they began to leap with joy."
