The second link looks pretty bollocks.
It claims to show 'fractal wave graphs based on e e-ching' (ancient religious book).
The graphs converge on zero at the year 2000.
This predicts some event, but as it is willfully unclear what the graphs axis actually show, and we are still here, I think we can presume it's nothing important.

If you want to look at pretty graphs with apocalyptic trends, google 'climate change'.

What?
Superintelligence.
Meaning GREATER intelligence.
If a GREATER intelligence thinks killing humans is necessary, then it's right - or at least more right about it than a lesser intelligence's disapproval.

Though I doubt a super-intelligence would stoop so low as to go "lol derp kill everything, lol I win".

Seriously, this teenage, movie-fueled attitude towards AI is so airheaded. Someone I know is deathly afraid of this subject, says shit like "If I ever see a sentient robot walking around I'll kill it on sight." Makes me wanna kick his teeth in.

What would even be the sensible thing to do if someone were to develop some sort smarter than human AI? Assuming both the AI and humans involved are not hostile you would still have the issue that if you did it once it's likely someone else will create something similar and it will spread until it inevitably falls into the wrong hands.

Would you have to task the newly created AI with improving itself and somehow winning an inevitable AI arms race?

I'm sure it won't be over quite /yet/. Evolution is indeed exponential, and only over the past couple hundred years or so has its curve become apparent. I'm willing to bet that the knee of the curve, where its slope becomes larger than 1, will fall upon the date of December 21st, 2012. The most plausible possibility is the advent of an AI--the Internet is already shaped like a neural network, and IBM is currently working on SyNAPSE, a project to create a chip modeled around the structure of the human brain.

Natural selection will indeed take place--but not between man and machine. But between those that wish to evolve and those that do not. Between those that wish to augment, transform, and merge themselves into beings capable of comprehending and processing data leagues beyond what the organic brain can, and those that wish to retain their "individuality." There is no individuality. There is no consciousness. All that we are are complex deterministic machines, the result of physical, chemical, atomic, and quantum reactions, among other things. Our choices are the result of causality, nothing more, nothing less. The ones that don't understand this will be restructured. The ones that do will be incorporated.

Firstly, thanks for the lecture. I always appreciate a good lecture.

Secondly, while I am watching this (there is no way this thread will be alive in an hour) I'd like to ask you, what do you gain upon changing your understanding of free will? Have you come upon any tangible changes in the way that you see your life play out?

Or better, what do you believe?

If you'd like to keep discussing this just leave your email. I won't spam you, promise.

>> No.4195742

>>4195724

It does cause internal changes. How could I know what tangible changes owe themselves to the internal changes? It's very subtle. I have caught myself thinking before about this, asking whether all my philosophical knowledge REALLY effects my life. Ultimately, it's too hard to quantify in the end.

And I can't even begin to determine what I believe. If I were forced to name one belief, I would say I believe in human limits. The ability to grasp an accurate perspective of them is important to me.

I guess we could exchange emails but I really don't think this thread will die so soon. Am I wrong?

>> No.4195761

>>4195742
Effects? Come on man.

Ignoring my own rudeness, let's talk about this. First, you seem to make a difference of internal and external changes. As in, if there are internal, then you are assuming there are external changes. Now, if that is the case, what do you see as an example of each? And what prevents you from assuming that there are no such thing as outer/inner changes but just changes?

See where I am getting at? In super short and laymen, and ignorant and what have you, philosophy seems decadent to me, and has nearly finished it's existence. But go ahead and refute me, honestly, I want to prove myself wrong (as should all of us).

The guy that sent you the lecture wasn't me, the guy you were talking to. He being >>4195742 as well, I think. I'd like to thank him for that lecture as well.
I'm the other guy that was dismissed as going full retard by the OP.

My belief, in essence, is that the Universe wishes to become sentient, and at present, we are the Universe experiencing itself subjectively. Crazy, I know, but if you consider that everything ultimately comes down to structure, any and all matter should be able to be shaped or manipulated into some sort of consciousness.

As for my lifestyle, I am now unable to truly hate or love anyone. I see things not as right or wrong, but as things that further progress and things that inhibit it. And lately I've been trying to self-educate as much as possible.

Of course, I'm not denying the possibility that everything I say and believe could be wrong.

I stand by my use of the word!

Internal change as in perspective. The way I think about things. This ultimately causes changes in my actions. As an example, I read The Stranger (Camus), which changed my thoughts on happiness. This caused me to appreciate my immediate state of being in a new light. What actions did this generate? That's the hard part to answer; probably more inaction than action in that the actions I used to take in pursuit of my former expectations ceased.

Did this all lead to a big life changing decision? No; however, I'm having a hard time thinking of any OTHER one factor I can recall has lead to any such decision.

I hope that's all clear enough. Also, I don't fully understand how you're differentiating between internal/external changes and simply changes.

I've come to see right and wrong as things that benefit the whole, and things that benefit part; That the whole system of right and wrong is simply to cull those that would, in a traditional game of the prisonners dilemma, choose to defect so that society is left with the "hyper-logical" group that would choose to co-operate, the ones that would mutually choose to not defect knowing that if everyone was a logical fuker, everyone would be worse off.I also now see the accretion of knowledge and the enjoyment of the human condition as my existence goals.
