In terms of how much of a shithole Albuquerque, NM is, it's accurate. I would know, I was born and currently live in this terrible city.

The mechanism for methyl amphetamine synthesis is not that difficult. There are a few ways to do it though, and I believe they show only two in the show, the first being the reduction of pseudoephedrine, which is an analgesic medication, with iodic acid and red phosphorous catalyst.
