Why can't we create dinosaurs if we have their DNA? When will this be feasible? What obstacles do we need to pass?

>>4149823

We do, we don't have any usable dna though, but it's possible if we found a female mosquito that had just fed a shit ton on a dinosaur before immediately being encased in amber.

I've been thinking about this recently too. Indeed, we don't have good dinosaur DNA. Even in rare cases where tissue is found, it's completely useless. Damn entropy. There are however a few ways to REcreate dinosaurs. Our best chances is to start off with their descendants, the birds. Look up chickenosaurus, the first steps are being taken. We can never recreate the original dinosaurs, but by knowing the code of DNA, and playing with it, we can approach their shape. I long for a time where we can write DNA as if it were computer code. But as for now, that just seems science fiction.

No.
"First, a suitable surrogate mother animal is required. For a dinosaur this would need to be the best biological fit, probably a bird but now the size difference may preclude gestation to term.

As if there are intact cells found they have been 'stored' frozen. However, if we think back to what actually happened to the animal - it died, even if from the cold, the cells in the body would have taken some time to freeze. This time lag would allow for breakdown of the cells, which normally happens when any animal dies. Then the carcass would freeze. So it is unlikely that the cells would be viable,"

THIS JUST IN!

Cloning in humans seems to be more efficient when leaving the nucleus of the host cell instead of removing the nucleus to put the DNA (or fertilized egg) that we wanted.

Three copies of genes though. Might be a problem.
