Concerning transhumanism (inspired by Ghost in the Shell)
The importance of having a human appearance is that it insures that you can still see yourself as human. YOur brain was programmed to be human, it doesn't like, or really understand, being anything else, so being able to look int he mirror and see a human in it will provide stablity.

There's also that most civilized environments and equipment just happen to be engineered toward being usable by a humanoid frame and a human hand.

I have. They just say
>Well it looks human enough to me! Are you racist or something?

I don't entirely disagree with them. Pic related, looks like a human with an altered face and fur.

If I ever got the opportunity I would like to become a robot. I don't care about looking human, though I would probably keep a humanoid frame and ect just for convenience and ease of use.

I look at myself now and see a monkey. The human body is primitive. I'd love to be able to surpass that.

There's a lot more fucked up shit than bipedal anthropomorphic animals, just saying.

What looks human will change with or without technology.

I'm sure we can maintain a stable mind as long as what we look like is somewhat normative and conformist (as opposed to genetic abnormalities and disease)

You could start by training until you surpass normal human conditions.

Would you call this a more likely result of transhumanism?

/d/ here, thanks for the pic.

As far as I'm concerned, the body is just a shell.
I don't even care whether the mind inside is human or not, as long as it's at least relatively benign.

I'm pretty sure people will diverge quite quickly from standard two-arms-two-legs bodies into weird furry shit, so I'm not sure.

If I do get to experience transhumanism first-hand, I totally want a cool suit and a Daft Punk-esque helmethead.
