/sci/,

My dog Kepler was diagnosed with cancer 3 months ago. He's been doing ok with it up until now. I have pain medication prescribed by the vet for him, but it isn't helping anymore. His breathing is labored and he constantly yelps in pain.

I know it's time for him to go but I called the vet earlier and he told me it would be $450 for euthanization and cremation (which is required by some stupid local ordinance). I don't have the money. I won't have the money until December at least. I'm going to school across the country from my parents and don't have anyone that could lend it to me.

I guess what I am asking is what might be some quick, painless method to do this myself. I don't have a gun. I can scrounge up $10 or $20 for medicine or something, but that's it.

Please help me to help my only true friend /sci/ ;_;

I don't know any specifics that could help you, but if you could get your hands on any drug that's used as a full anesthetic for dogs all you would need to do is apply an overdose. The dog would be passed out before it died, no pain whatsoever.

Alternatively you could try to find someone with a gun and shoot the dog in the head. Done right it would be an instant (but very messy) death.

I know your pain, OP. We had a dog that was like that, we took him to a vet and he tried to charge a ludicrous amount to have him put down. We eventually just took him to a river and drowned him. Very painful memories, but it was in the best interest of the dog, he was in a lot of pain.

Drowning is probably the easiest, and the least messy way, and it's relatively quick, but it's going to break your heart when he struggles, OP.

Ketamine is really hard to overdose on, the LD50 is in the range of ~400mg/kg. You have to understand when veterinarians use it it's mixed with a muscle relaxant, usually xylazine.

I'm sorry OP. I don't recommend anything physical like harming him or cutting off his air - i'd prefer a chemical method.

Theobromine in chocolate is lethal to dogs at an LD50 of 300mg of theobromine per Kg of the dog's mass. Though it might induce vomiting or something..it's not pleasant but it's also not as disturbing as actually wounding Kepler.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theobromine_poisoning

Perhaps some form of cyanide solution as an injection or carbon monoxide gas. You could flood a room with CO and before long, anything living in the room will die. I think it's lethal to humans at just 50ppm - so for dogs, which have smaller lung capacity's and bodies, it's probably a little less. Anything which combusts a carbon fuel will produce it - e.g. car engines - Be careful though, i don't recommend this. It also poses a risk to others.

Go with an injection or ingestion method.

You could also just go to another vet - crazy idea.

>> No.4019446

Hey, your dog doesn't need a painless death. Even a painful death is better than constant pain for god knows how long. Also, don't you have painkillers? Those will take away the pain. Just give your dog some painkillers, then slit its throat or stab it in the heart.

>> No.4019468

If OP's dog were my dog, and I were in the same situation, this is what I would do. Before just blatantly killing my friend, I would buy a quarter of cannabis and feed all of it to the dog. The dog will definitely not feel any pain after that, but couldn't overdose. Ever wonder why human cancer patients use cannabis? Well, while my dog was in a good physical state I would play with him, snuggle with him, and try to have the best fucking day I could have with my dog. At the end of the day, I would run a hose from the exhaust of my car through the window of the passenger side. I would wear a breathing mask with a hose going through the window to the outside fresh air. I would sit with my dog in the car and let the CO2 take him while I held him in my arms. Then I would cry like a bitch, then start digging his grave.

I'm leaning towards suggesting cyanide, but I'm not going to give procurement information out speculatively, I need to know where the hell he lives, it varies wildly by area.

Also monoxide poisoning is likely to kill him, it's an unsafe gas to work with at the best of times, let alone while distraught and with ghetto gear.
