hey /sci/ can something truly be odorless? Or is it just that we don't have the ability to smell it? What about vision? Can something truly be invisible like "red shifting" or is it that our eyes are don't have the ability to see it. But lets say others species do

>> No.3996839

erm, its tautologic, thats what the words mean
something is odorless if the molecules dont bind to your nasal receptors, making you feel the sensation of the odour.
the molecules still exsit, obviously
same thing with vision, outside the human EM visible spectrum, you dont detect any image, so it's invisible

Vaccuum. Both truly odorless and invincible.

u can't like break a vaccuum man

Odorless and "people have no ability to smell it" are the same thing, by definition. What is the point in making a distinction?

can you FUCKING
READ!??

Well because how can you all something odorless if it can be smelled by another species? Or call something invisible if it can be seen by some other life form?

>> No.3996882

do you mean orderless as doesn't excrete any molecules/particles?

>> No.3996883

>>3996878
odourless and invisible are usually used to mean 'for humans'

>excrete

if the molecules dont bind to nasal receptors, it is the same (lack of) effect

Then it wouldn't be odorless or invisible to them.

Are you talking odorless and invisible as an absolute across all spectrums?

Black Holes are invisible, then, as no light escapes from them (although most have massive accretion discs that burn so hot they radiate X-RAYS) and there would be no way to observe it beyond its effects on the surrounding area.

Odorless.. I don't know the mechanics behind that.

Wouldn't that get somewhat confusing though? i.e

CrimeScene1. Cop1: The body was sprayed with X. it is odorless, I guess we will never find it.

CrimeScene2. Cop1: The body was sprayed with Z. it is odorless, lets get the dogs to sniff it out. Cop 2: but sir I thought it was odorless. Cop1: it is.

dogs still smell in the same range as us, they just have a far stronger sense of smell (the molecules still bind)
therefore, if the dogs can smell it, it isnt odourless, it just might be so diluted that a human wouldnt pick it up, but they WOULD pick up exactly the same material, were it more highly concentrated
