Steve Hsu (physicist, hobbyist psychometrician, and "Information Processing" blogger; pic related) analyzed GRE or other standardized test score data to "convert" the standardized test scores to IQ scores. This conversion is at least loosely valid because statistically these standardized test scores are highly and positively correlated with IQ and g-factor asessments. Sure enough, these values are stratified by field. (Reference points: Traditionally, IQ is normalized at 100. The standard deviation for WAIS/WISC is 15 points. Mean IQ of a college graduate is 115. Mean IQ of high school graduates is 105.)

There are a ton of kids who aren't smart who drop premed during undergrad and there are a lot who don't get into med school, period. But unlike physics, you don't *need* an IQ over +2 SD to study medicine. Since there are no intrinsic roadblocks to individuals with average or +1 SD intelligence in medicine, it is not surprising to see the IQ of the medical field so low.
