Norcal here, placement tests?
In 9th grade I had a class that took English placement. I, and most of the people who weren't utter morons, placed right into college level, I'm not sure if you're allowed to place higher. As for math I didn't have to take, but most people I see actually fail pretty hard at it because they haven't had a math class in years, if you know trig you can start off pretty high. Everyone should go to a community college, even if it's just a semester. That does a number of things.

1) Overrides your highschool GPA altogether, so you can do shitty at highschool and focus on more important things than busy work.

2) Turns you into a transfer student, so you won't have to do any of that new student bullshit that others have to do (like living in dorms).

3) Allows you to bang out shitty core classes that no one cares about anyways without having to spend a lot of money.

At the end of the day, you not only save a lot of money, but you're more likely to get accepted into the Uni you want to since you're a transfer student.
