The REAL price of a barrel of oil, in full knowledge that there are only 1 trillion of those barrels available, and knowing also each barrel has enough energy to perform about 25000 man-hours of labor ... well, the REAL price of that barrel is several thousand dollars.

It hardly matters what economic reality says, anyway. Americans will have to learn the truth about oil the hard way, like they learn EVERYTHING the hard way. Americans are the best educated morons that the world has ever produced.

if anything I would bet that OPEC sets the prices LOWER than the "naive" macro-economic, theoretical, free market equilibrium value, because that way they can beat out the competition and use it as a political and economic strangle on the rest of the world. That is sort of the whole point of a cartel.
