Ok, so let's say we build a space ship that can travel faster than the speed of light. We travel to another star system that's 5 light years, but we get there in in 4 tears. What happens?

You get there in 4 years

You would arrive there a year ago.

>Implying you can't travel to Proxima Centuari in 3.6 years in a rocket going less the light speed

Who said anything about Proxima Centuari? It was a hypothetical scenario discussing travel faster than light. lrn2 reading comprehension you fucking retard

Time goes slower as you approach light speed. At exactly c, time stops. I would assume going faster has tachyon-like effects and shit starts going backwards in time.

>> No.3840710

it takes a slower speed than light to travel 5 light years in 4 years. although to outside observers it would take you longer than 5 years.

Going at the speed of light, would allow you to reach your destination instantaneously. although to outside observers it would take you 5 years.

going faster than the speed of light would allow you to reach your destination before you left. to outside observers it would take less than 5 years

But you don't need faster then light to travel like that you fucktard.

Proxima centuri is ~5 light years away and it only takes ~3.6 years.

>> No.3840751

There is no time, what we have is relative motion in space.

"Time" is an imperfect recollection of events caused by memory.

When did OP say he was headed to Proxima Centauri?
