/sci/.

I have a question regarding solar power.

What is the waste typically produced? I've heard it said on here that it's worse than fossil fuel and whatnot, but I haven't been able to find any sources. If you could help, that would be greatly appreciated.

trolling?

there is no waste product.

I was under the impression that it was worse for the environment than most people are aware.

yes, those solar panels just pop out of no where fully formed without us having to purify the material and spend electricity to make them and when they reach the end of their lifetimes they ascend to solar haven leaving no unusable poisonis material on earth.

and i am almost certainly correct.

Use solar power to make solar panels. Maintian solar panels so dont die

that would be best, but we dont life in a perfect world, and you still have the shit from the purification and production, unless you make enough so that you never have to make new ones.

the production of solar panels =/= the waste product of solar energy.

also, the components of solar panels can be recycled when they reach the end of their lifetimes.

>silicon tetrachloride (a corrosive and toxic waste product of polysilicon manufacturing) on nearby farmland. [...] Silicon tetrachloride makes the soil too acidic for plants, causes severe irritation to living tissues, and is highly toxic when ingested or inhaled.

Seriously, is googling really that hard?

>wind energy
thats even worse, wind turbines condense moisture out of the air and cause deserts a few kilometers behind them. at the moment it also takes more electricity to maintain/produce/dispose of wind turbines than what it makes it its lifetime, so we first need new production t6ecniges or material before that going to work.

Look gents, solar panels degrade over time. You can't "maintain" them. Eventually they'll degrade to a point whereby the electrical output has just dropped to zero. Sure, it might be 30 years or so, but you're always going to need to build new ones, although a fair amount of the input could probably be recycled.

Basically the culprit here is bad waste handling protocols in the hands of manufacturers (mostly in China) The shit's toxic, it's generally accepted you don't dump toxic shit where you eat, china doesn't give a shit.

Solar p-v is pretty balls up retarded anyway, especially where i live up north. Heliostats are way more boss.

Like >>3837301 said, silicon-based solar panels --> SiCl4

And newer dye-sensitized solar cells use fucking Ruthenium.

These are concerns of the direct-energy modes of extracting solar energy. Photocatalytic hydrolysis does not suffer from these unwanted secondary effects. However efficient hydrogen storage is the roadblock for this approach. A hybrid approach is feasible for 24-hour energy needs.

Because you're clumsy as shit. You also apparently don't know the layout of a standard keyboard.

Sage because off-topic and I don't care about the topic.

There's a form of solar energy gathering where they just farm some form of algae I think in these large tubes that collect sunlight. They can apparently get a useful form of energy out of this algae, and the waste from the process is organic material that can be used for other processes.

And then of course, any form of solar power where you're just using mirrors or lenses to heat something up is pretty waste free.
