BIOGENESIS CHALLENGE

most kills with an organism you designed under 30 years of age.

Master Quest: max two dimensions.

heres my first try.

That's small time.

My age limit is 30, but mutations was set to 0 so I could try and produce a stable ecosystem.

>> No.3819144

i guess mosquitos shouldn't be allowed in this. I thought they died young though.

>> No.3819154

>>3819144

They normally die young because they have so little energy (due to being small), and so are consumed completely, easily.

kind of a trivial challenge
1) populate world with stupid plants
2) enter the death sticks/razors/gliders

you could also photoshop it...
its for fun. i havent been fucking with the initial conditions. I'm just designing and pasting. and I try to kill its children.

basically I've had the variation in that pic 1000 times, tweaking parameters to almost no effect.

1) Viruses outcompete the green bugs at first in population size and density. The spear killers are aimless, barely alive.
2) Eventually the bugs reach the viruses and destroy their population after a protracted turf war
3) the bug population increase drives up the spear population which begins decimating everything

right now mine is a sea of red lines (that sprouted up by me artificially inserting a bunch of green star plants).

and a couple of "harvester" types that go around and eat the red lines, collecting them in a round red scoop.

Argument that optimal predators (predators who kills all prey as fast as possible) under the restriction that they are radially symmetrical will die out:

Consider an optimal radially symmetrical predator. This predator will have all of its red segments on the outside, and green and cyan segments on the inside (because an organism with red segments on the inside is not optimal). Now consider a similar organism where the cyan segments are replaced with green segments. This organism cannot be considered a predator because it does not move. At the same time, this organism will feed on the predator at a rate nearly identical to the rate that the predator feeds upon it (because their external structure is the same as far as feeding is concerned). This organism will produce more energy than the predator does because of the extra green segments, and will thus reproduce faster. So, the death rate will be the same as the predator, but it's birth rate will be higher. Because the ecosystem has a limited carrying capacity, eventually the stationary organism will replace the predator.

cyan is strongly selected against overall, in my experience. I've thought something along those lines for why. Replacing cyan with yellow / green is clearly better in a densely-populated world.

Right now I'm working on constructing a decent self-sustaining predator (gray red cyan green) but I don't think it would hold up against a more specialized organism like those I faced last night

These green plants are so damn useless. Along with the predators they're pretty much the only species left and the predators are eating them at a rate that is faster than they can reproduce. I don't really want to intervene, but I'll probably have to introduce some more species or they'll all go belly up.
