if there was a sun made of ice would we be able to see it?

pic related. its a sun made of ice

>> No.3750052

You have a pic of it. Therefore yes.

I think you'll get more amusing responses to this sort of thread if you try /b/

>> No.3750062

More interesting is what happens when it collides with a sun made of lava.

>> No.3750069

The gravitational collapse would just turn it into an exotic, high-metallicity star, fusing, shining, all that good shit.

A sun made of ice would radiate cold instead of heat, so the closest planets would be the coldest

>> No.3750164

>>3750086
interadaesteing thought my firend :) ive actually wondred the same thing.

>>3750107
that explains why we cant see planets from other stars then, because they all have ice suns instead of begin lucky like us with a fire sun.

actuly the rel reson is dat all da oter planuts r leik movin rel fast 2 da blak wholez n shitz n we cant c dem wen dey movin so fast

>> No.3750181

Actually there are only suns made of ice in our universe.
The "sun" in the center of our solar system has maximum distance to all of these and is therefore a point with a minimum of coldness, resulting in heat.

I went through the calculations for you. I found that the mass of the sun, if made of ice, would be 1.29E+30 kilograms assuming an ice density of 916.7 kg/m3.

It takes about 1.5E+29 kilograms for an object to spontaneously become a star, and since ice is made of hydrogen we would probably see fusion occurring.

>> No.3750240

Wow this thread makes my brain hurt!

>> No.3750277

>>3750069
Well, suppose we have an ultramafic lava typical in iceland with an Magnesium content of 5 percent, iron content of 10 percent, sulfur content of 5 percent, in a matrix of feldspar rock material.

That would require a mass of 25.9 times the mass of the sun to spontaneously result in fusion based on an average fusion thresholds of a mass with averaged thermodynamic properties.

oh ok so your a fucking faggot who thinks he knows everything when in fact you just made up those statistics to make yourself look smarter on an anonymous board you fucken retardation abomination

>> No.3750291

>>3750274
Search for density of ice. You'll see its correct.

Fusion requires a mass 80 times that of Jupiter. Google that, google mass of Jupiter.

Google the volume of the sun. Multiply by the density.

I could have made simple math errors because I just did it in my head. It's an elementary calculation.

This answer has been given several times to this exact same thread, time after time.

And the answer always gets ignored in the flood of trolling.

tl;dr: fuck you

>> No.3750325

>>3750086
Well, assuming they are both made of the material from which the sun is composed, it's irrelevant to mention the ice and the lava.

If they collide had on, they may join to form one larger star. If they collide tangentially, then they may orbit around each other for awhile before merging, or possibly continue at slightly different trajectories provided their velocities are high enough. I could calculate that easily, but I'll lave that for you.

the moon has an apparent size of ~30 arcminutes
the sun has an apparent size of ~32 arcminutes
so its plenty big enough to see even when not on fire

however, given the condition of the OP, you wouldn't be able to see the sun because there wouldn't be enough light in the solar system for a human to see by if it were made of ice
