Our gene pool was at one time less than a few hundred, obviously we turned out fine.

I honestly think the idea of inbreeding occur with the size of the gene pool we have today is a completely ridiculous notion. I really doubt there's anyway possible way you could breed a million people and succumb to inbreeding.

You can buy Z80s and Motorola 6809 (er, I suppose they might have a different designation now...) processors in bulk now, with mean-time-to-failure rated on the order of decades and a quite respectable array of compilers and other software. Plus the available documentation is overwhelming.

But there's a lot of reason to bump up to 16-bit processors for many applications.
