My favorite part about this image is that even though we see so many colors, the colors are not even a fraction of all the EM waves.

I grew up in Southern California but when to high school in New Hampshire, where the sky was FLAMING with stars. It's what got me going into all this science shit.

Except that's nonsense.

Unless he's a few thousand years old.

There are still many places on earth where the sky is as dark as it's ever been. I live within half an hour of one.
Hell, Sark Island works.

Except that's it's not nonsense. We never will see skies again like we had only fifty-sixty years ago. Even on Sark, which I have been past during my fours years in the navy, at night in the middle of the goddam ocean where it gets as dark as it gets. Above the Artic Circle, and in the middle of the North Atlantic, there is now serious optical degradation which I have witnessed. The only places left now are up high, usually above the cloud layer, such as Chile and Hawaii.

It's sad but true. Sure, once in awhile you get some good seeing weather when certain conditions are right, but it's few and far between and unpredictable and not likely to get better for at least another hundred years - if we can get the petrochemical byproducts out of the atmosphere.

I'd like to point out that while this is an unaltered natural light image, even ones like the famous eagle nebula and the crab above are not UNreal, as such, they're just showing non-visible spectra in false color or such.
