I keep hearing that cannabis has positive effects in perception and cognition. Basically, that it can be used as a temoral mental enhancer. So I have 3 questions.
>1) Does marijuana really help the brain? If yes, in what ways?
>2) What are the negative effects (if any)?
>3) Are there alternatives?

Idk brah, I'm more creative when high, but my technical cognitive abilities, like mathematical skill, are usual decreased. Like, if I wanna write a song, or paint, I'll smoke.

>> No.3712546

while under the effect of thc your short-term memory is decreased, as is your ability to not drift off in thought aswell as a general destruction of executive function.
On the plus side it should make new ideas come easier to you, but it also increases emotional significance of things so your ability to tell quality ideas from meh ones will be reduced.

Overall you should probably not take weed for nootropic purposes, unless you're looking to do something creative. Even then, you should probably only do it for creative flair when you've already done the bulk of the groundwork for the project.

Sounds like horseshit theories by cannabis supporters continuing to try to spin their habit in a positive way, actually.

Even if it did have any positive effects, nobody is using it for that reason.

Lol lighten up buddy. It's obvious you've never smoked weed. I'm very involved in playing music, and about 80-90% of the musicians I know smoke weed. I know this inaccurate and anecdotal statistic doesn't do much to prove my point, but what I'm trying to say is that sounds seem louder when high, and other sensations are amplified, and playing in time/playing creatively is easier when high. I personally find it easier to draw/paint when high as well.

I've smoked pot on and off for 30 years.
After literally staying stoned for 3 years(wake and bake err day) I quit smoking for several years.
Without pot, I am somewhat depressed and lack interest in pretty much everything.I've tried prozac, paxil, lexipro, wellbutrin, celexa?,trazidone, and others that I can't even remember.None of them worked for me or weren't worth the side effects.
I've recently started smoking again, and WOW. I've become interested in building computers again, science, electronics, math, and other things.
my brain feels more clear and organized.
After smoking, I feel better for 4-6 days.
I think it's one of the cannabinoids rather than THC.
It isn't just the high, I've experimented with different strains and some that have a good high, don't have the lasting effect. The only side effects are the munchies and the burnt feeling when it wears off that goes away in a couple of hours or with a short nap.
I'll just have to moderate my use so I don't turn into a couch-locked stoner again.

TL;DR: Pot is great as long as it's used in moderation

I'm sure there are studies out there somewhere done by people for exactly these reasons. It's not an area of study I particularly care about, so I don't have any free and handy research.

Like any drug, though, there's going to be some sort of benefit and there's going to be a consequence.

>>3712569

And bingo, there chimes in the cannabis supporter.

Over the years, I used to be anti weed, then I got over it. I realized the problem wasn't the drug, but the people who do it. Like so many other things... political ideals, religion, sports... the problem isn't the concept or the item but the people involved with it.

The legalization of cannabis, also known as marijuana, has been a controversial subject in recent times. The use of cannabis for medical purposes was first recorded in ancient China in 2737 BC. It was referred to as a “superior herb” in Chinese emperor Shen Nung’s Pen Ts’ao, the world’s first medical text. Since then it has been used by various cultures around the world for medical purposes and for recreational use. In 1937, the United States government issued the Marijuana Tax Act, which essentially forbade the cultivation of cannabis (cannabis.net). Recently and throughout history, many medical doctors and researchers around the world have discovered that cannabis is a legitimate treatment for various medical conditions. This begs the question, why was cannabis deemed illegal?

It shouldn't need to be justifiably legal, it was illegal for political reason, there never was a real health reason to restrict its use. Its not as bad for you as several legal things are, and some people think it helps them, does it? Who cares, there doesn't need to be a reason to legalize it other than it was made illegal for the wrong reasons to start with.

Smoking anything can be harmful to you, i wouldn't advise doing that, but other methods of consumption seem okay to me.

Why do so many stoners try to kid themselves and others that LSD and THC can give them some sort of mental edge over teetoallers? Is there ANY science at all behind LSD that even remotely supports these fantasies? I do recall that the CIA invented acid for some nefarious reason and experimented heavily with it but I'm not sure what the end results of said experiments actually were.

I just wanted to chime in

the anti-weed people are sheep.

People hate cheaters. Prostitution is illegal because its 'cheating' You are ignoring social conventions for your benefit. People hate to see other people speeding (even though they have been speeding at other times) because its 'cheating' the person is violating the rule structure you are abiding by. There are numerous examples of this

As a general rule when someone is buying into societies rule structure they will detest those that dont

which is why people hate drugs. The states of mind and emotion effects are almost universally positive, 'bad trips' aside. These people hate the drugs and the users because they are shrugging aside the 'rule structure' of society and gaining this positive mood for no 'legitimate' reason, while you cant because your rule structure doesnt let you.

You hate them because they're haxing reality.

But it doesnt effect you so fuck you. There is no legitimate reason for weed to be illegal and it causes harm in the form of cost, ruining lives by locking people up, and the drug war in mexico. Who gives a shit if weed has beneficial physical effects, it makes people happy and is non physically addictive (you do not have withdrawal symptoms when you stop. And now that i think about it, laughing and being happy has beneficial physiological effects anyway

If you have never done acid you cant understand what it does. Words can not describe what it does, we dont have words for it. Drug culture has invented phrases related to it like the 'carrier wave' and 'ego death' that you can only understand by experiencing them because these things refer to a subjective experience that simply does not exist without the drug so you have no context to put the words into.

It changes for a time your fundamental perspective. It lets you realize that the way you view the world is just that: the way you view the world. Nothing you think is inherently true, its just what you think.

Part of the reason they (trippers) act superior is the reason a soldier acts superior. They've been through shit you cant imagine and come back out. Trips can be fucked up if you do enough without the right mindset and setting.

Also, once you've had that happen, lost all your perspectives, its hard to ever look at the world dogmatically again.

'without music life would be a mistake'

Writing music will get you pussy. It will make you feel good that you are creating something. Allow you to pass on your genes. Gain you the respect of a fun group of individuals. Get you popular, gain you a following and social acceptance.

Unless you're a genius math will get you none of that.

Music is in general FAR more useful than being able to preform complex math.

And the impairment ends after the high ends, dont smoke before you have to do calculus.

Also i find the exact opposite effect with regard to my math ability. It just seems more intuitive to me when high, most things do.
