I'm a physics major and my totally honest guess at my IQ would be 125-130.
First day I meet this guy who plays blindchess with a guy and asks me if I want to play with him at the same time as he plays with the other guy.

I use my iphone for a board (I'm not an experienced player, at all). And he whoops my ass while whooping the other guys ass.

It's both a nice and a weird change to not be the smartest guy in class anymore. In highschool not a single person in class was even close to my understanding in math and logic, but here. I'm pretty fucking avarage and i'm loving it

I am satisfied with being able to understand science and being able to explain lots of stuff. I already accepted the fact that if I would go for a phd I would be a pretty crappy scientist.

My goal is to get a work that require a brain and doing something I like, don't care too much about the pay or else I would study economics.

The usefulness of intelligence in science is very over-exaggerated by laymen. After a certain point being more intelligent does nothing for you, and instead creativity, work ethic, competence, and communication skills gain far, far more importance.

Also, I chortle at the idea that 130 is /sci/'s average IQ. Maybe for those of us who are past undergrad that's true, but there's not many such people on /sci/, at least not when compared to the number of high schoolers and 1st year undergrads who think they're going to be the next Tesla or Einstein.

personally i think it's just a matter of opening your mind to mathematics and deductive reasoning. If you look at it from different perspectives rather than just one, you'll see many variables and other "doors" to choose from.


the basics of IQ tests is just seeing the change in the pattern, and deciding what will happen next. You just have to be patient and think about it

Think back a hundred years. How many geniuses and scientists of the millions of people that lived back then do you remember? That's right, only a handful of the most brilliant, gifted and dedicated.

There are over 6 billion people on this planet. Most of us are just plain, boring losers. Ever walked through a shopping center and looked at the people there? Those ugly motherfuckers with the dead look in their eyes? That's exactly how you look too. That's a fact and you need to accept that.

I accepted it. However, this does under no circumstances mean that you should stop reaching for greatness. This is only the reality of things, but you should never give up. Don't beat yourself up because "you're not smart enough".

An IQ test simply measures your ability to take an IQ test. As part as a study, I helped my prof design an experiment that had two groups of students aged 9-13 (Aprox 20 of each age per group) write an IQ test.

One group were given "mock tests" and material that is very similar to those found on IQ tests (Patern recognition, memory, etc). The other was not.

Guess what group, on an overall average, scored 13 points higher on the IQ test?

Final comparison was 107 to 120.

Students in age groups were all from the same school, and we talked to their teachers to ensure we weren't pitting the bright kids against slow learners.
