I have an opportunity tomorrow to meet and hear a presentation from Neil deGrasse Tyson.

If given the opportunity, what one question should I ask him?

The high school I attended (a private, boarding, military affair) is on a natural lake surrounded by pristine wetlands. The school owns most of the property around it, including the lion's share of vacation houses on its shore. They've kept the wetlands in great condition.

The water was, or so I was told, drinkable with only microbial filtration since there were no pollutants in the lake. The science classes would occasionally do tests on the lake's water and it was superbly clean by almost any standard.

We drank it a few times after boiling, tasted just fine. GC/MS analysis showed that chemical contaminants were well below (lower, so better) standards for municipal drinking water, IIRC.

>One objective reality is that our government doesn’t work, not because we have dysfunctional politicians, but because we have dysfunctional voters. That, is an excellent observation.

It's been said by others, but I've said the same thing in so many words:
We,the people of the United States, have gotten precisely the government that we deserve.

My government needs help, but I'm not qualified to do it. Such a herculean task is best left to more appropriately qualified professionals such as certified special education instructors and psychiatrists.

I really think you should tell him to come to /sci/. If you need a subtle way of doing it, just say:

"If you ever have the time, many members of the online science and math community on 4chan would really love to have an opportunity to speak with you."

If you do this, it would be sooooo much win.

Choosing good leaders still ain't easy. I like to think I'm pretty well educated, but the more I learn the less certain I am about who I should vote for.

Maybe we need to experiment with some alternative systems. We need a democratic component, for sure, but maybe we could use something else for policy decisions.

A good question to ask:

Do you think we can make science sexy again? Fiction and the media have typecast us as undesirable nerds, but can our image be redeemed? Where is the dashing man or woman in a labcoat and where can we find him/her?
