Hey /sci/ I am wondering if taking a medication that lowers DHT levels would have any affect on my math skills or performance in school.

DHT is a potent androgen, its a testosterone derivative.

I have googled it and I seem to get contradiction information. Men with lower testosterone levels tend to have much better math skills, but studies show that testosterone is linked to increased memory and learning.

The medication is finasteride and its supposed to keep you from losing hair. Its a voluntary thing but I have a big forhead and I really want to keep my hair if thats possible.

Understand Dissociations in dyscalculia

Read that, should give you insight on what to look up or test for.

Also, most testosterone things improve visual memory and spatial memory, however, they tend to worsen left-hemispheric function which is shit like rote. Read the article I gave, I believe generally it would improve approximation but could worsen exact calculations, but I'm speculating.

Might as well add:

Estrogen significantly elevates dopamine activity, which makes it easier to focus and remember exact skills, as well as improving finite precision among motor skills and such. There's a trade-off.

I think the most important thing is developmental testosterone levels. Im thinking it probably wont make any difference at all, but its scary to think I could be fucking myself up in school.

There. Also combine it with visual memory or spatial learning if you want to

Well, its complicated though. The Alpha 5 reductase actually raises testosterone levels. And there dont seem to be many studies on tesoterone derivatives.

Is this actually true? If yes, how the fuck are these two related?

There's different math skills.

It doesnt have to be. We can say that inner city black schools are worse so thats why they have worse math skills.

Im not trying to start a racial thing. Thats just one of the possible ways to make sense of the data.

Hahahahaha. I'm the one who posted that study yesterday in relation to that poster who complained about his low testosterone levels.

Try finasteride, but I don't think it will have any effect on your math ability. If low hormones do affect math ability, it would certainly be a life-long process since the start of puberty.

I can't see it anywhere in the article. I have just google it though and this half-credible website told me that this is true for women. For men, it doesn't make any difference.
