Hey /sci/. I came here for some help. Seeming as this is the board for science, I thought you'd be able to help me with my eyes.

To put it simply, are there any techniques that will help me improve or maintain my eyesight? I know some of the things I shouldn't be doing are sitting close to the computer or TV, not looking into the sun, etc. but I need to know what tricks I can do to improve my eyesight. I don't want to go legally blind at the ripe age of 19. I'm already nearsighted. I really don't want to lose my vision.

I heard beta carotene helps

Antioxidants.
Generally healthy living.

Also, looking at distant objects relaxes your eye muscles.

The Lipton kind or the baggy kind? Or both?

Yes, green tea, blueberries, beta-carotene certainly helps, but in moderation.

Wear UV-shades. If you do arc-welding, wear UV-protective gear EVERY TIME.

I once did a stint of welding for a couple of months and shrugged off using the mask a few times. Hello eye-surgery!

Healthy living also lowers your risk of getting diabetes, which is also bad for your eyes.

High blood pressure is also bad for your eyes.

If you have a tendency to dry eyes, use drops. Because dry eyes get infected more easily and that is... surprise! Bad for your eyes!

This might or might not be importatn for you, but saturation diving can also cause problems with your sight.

You're welcome.
Of course, you should get an eye exam regularly.

If someone else can think of more, please contribute, I really need to go fall into my bed now.

Same. I've got bad hearing though + tinnitus, fucking hate it, much worse than needing glasses IMO because there's nothing I can do about it.

Just relax, OP. 'Eye strain' isn't going to degrade your vision any faster than it will fail naturally

Just go about business as usual and buy some glasses or contacts when necessary. I don't see the problem.

Exercise your eyes. It isn't that looking at a computer screen itself is bad, it's that you stop focusing at different distances.
