Hello academics, scholars and summerfags.

I'm working on a 'research talent' grant application for a PhD project together with my boss (I work as a research assistant) in the field of neuroscience. I want this thing bad, because it would suck to have to look for a job elsewhere. I know the people in this lab and get along with everyone.

Anyway, I want to write a smashing letter of motivation. I kind of suck at these kinds of things, so I'm hoping for some tips. What would be a good way to go about this? I heard I should avoid centering the letter around my persona (e.g. avoid the use of "I"), but how?

To get your structure.
>>>/adv/
To get criticism.

>>>/sci/
To go over the meaningful stuff that /lit/ and /adv/ wouldn't know anything about.

What's with the sage? Would you rather this was a religion thread?

Butthurt detected.

The clue was in the ordering of boards. Go to /lit/ first and get your template done. Then go to /adv/ and get some criticism (or the other way around). Then come here and we'll fill you in on the details.

Contrary to your current belief, YOU have to write the letter, and WE may offer our opinions if you deign you worthy. It's not the other way around.

Seems to me like you're the one who's butthurt, but whatever. Get off your high horse or just find another thread to satisfy your browsing needs.
>Go to /lit/ first and get your template done.
I already have a template. That's not the issue. The problem is the tone of the letter, not the contents. The importance of this differs hugely per field, which is why I asked here.

Anyway, some tips and pointers is all I need. I'm not expecting anyone to do the work for me. Others may benefit from this just as well.

Post here. We can give you criticism. Alternatively, fuck off. You're not providing anything for us to talk about except how fucktarded you are.

You know what? Never mind. I'll write it myself. I don't think you could provide any actually useful tips. Have a lovely day.

OP: try to emphasize that you think you can substantially contribute to the research in question. What these people generally find important is not so much that you are committed to doing a good job (everyone is), but why <span class="math">you[/spoiler] could do a better job than someone else.

You shouldn't have said that. It draws the morons in.
