I apoligize if this is a stupid question, but the universe is expanding correct? But what is it expanding into? Is there something outside of the universe?

>> No.3591636

expanding into a void. yes exactly how the big bang was created

>> No.3591658

the universe isn't expanding, it's just that space is increasing

>> No.3591661

Why does space have to expand into something?

>> No.3591666

Because God. Leave me alone.

>> No.3591693

It isn't expanding into anything, it's just expanding.

Outside the 'edge' (if such a physical boundary exists) of our Universe, there is no matter, no energy, no space, no time.

>> No.3591703

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metric_expansion_of_space

>> No.3591713

there is no space outside the Universe....actually, there is NOTHING outside the Universe.

>> No.3591719

Isn't nothing, something?

>> No.3591722

>>3591693

how do u know whats outside the universe?

The matter, space and time and all that shit started from something that something created.

Was all that stuff just floating in that nothingness or falling?

And if it was "floating" Then it must have been held by some sort of gravitational force right?

>> No.3591725

Its not expanding into anything, space ITSELF is expanding.

There's nothing everyday and familiar that it's analogous to.

I could ask you the same thing, but with you spelled as you and an uppercase h.

>> No.3591755

>>3591719

No, Prof. Hegel. It isn't. It is not the case that there exists anything outside the Universe.

>> No.3591757

>>3591722

because the Universe is everything that exists.... that is kind of what the word means, you know?

>> No.3591758

>>3591749
no, but I have no evidence that god doesn't exist either
this makes more sense to me than so called dark matter, dark energy, space expanding, ect, ect.

Actually, there is evidence that the speed of light has changed through time

Not expanding into anything. Space itself is expanding (at least relative to our current size and everything we use to measure space).
