Just curious, /sci/entists, but how do you want to live your life?

What are your goals? How do you think that your everyday life is going to be?

Be realistic.

I'm in college as a Mechanical Engineer. I'm going to do this for 10 years or so while heavily investing so I can retire under the age of 40 and set up a game shop. Hopefully by this aging has been cured, if not then time to freeze myself and hope for the best for the future.

I need to go to school for physics.
I feel compelled to die with a complete understanding of everything on the most elementary level.
Throughout my career in trying to perfect fusion energy for the benefit of the human race I'll be placing every other ounce of effort into the Theory of Everything.

I really like your thinking.

My goals are to finish my Pd.D. in Stochastic Fluid Flow Modelling (two years time, hopefully), move into quantitative analysis.... Stay in quantitative analysis for long enough to be able to get to a point where I can also live a life (sort-of...) retire happy.

Sorry boy but if you're involved in nuclear physics you're not getting involved in the theory of everything. Its a one or the other game here. When you start at university you'll begin to realise, there're too much there for you to do everything - you have to specialise. Theory of everything is for the mathematicians to keep working on. Wolfram will have it before you know what hits you.

I'm on the science track as of now, but will drop off and go the private industry route instead.

Physics here.

Job could be practically anything related to sensors are measurement techniques, spectroscopy etc., that sort of thing.

Since I have a wife and a huge place to live .. I'd say I got off lucky. It's a shame though, that one can't do the academic science route in my country.

Finish the aviation diploma and become a career pilot. I'd be happy with any flying job, no matter how unglamourous, if it gave me enough money to live well, and stable enough so that I can come home at the end of the day.

If that means being a flight instructor for the rest of my life, then I'm fine with that. As long as I get to fly.
