/econ/ thread anyone?

How about that financial sector today, eh? I bought C at 29... it went up to 30.00 but now, well, you know. I guess I'm going really long on this one, but maybe it'll shoot up tomorrow.

Also been looking at Agilent, might be a good buy.

I love this crash. there are some companies with P/E as low as 3-5 here. and those are actually growing and paying dividents.

Do you have money in the market right now?

I just entered the market this week, I'm trying to snatch up good bargains due to panic selling. Made around 100 off BAC yesterday, and I was trying to do the same with C today. Maybe tomorrow it'll pan out.

Hey OP Im here.

Ill talk about anything.

I was talking to a fellow econ major at my university. He was like "Eh, well have a slow few years and recover" while Im thinking this is the end of the world.

Mind sharing a couple of those? I'm new to this, and so far I'm only looking at companies whose names I can conjure up in my head. None of which have such a good P/E ratio

To me it all depends on what the Fed does. Since they just announced that they are keeping rates at 0 for the next couple years, I'd say we will have mild stagflation for the next few years. If they raised interest rates closer to the natural market rate, then we would have a massive market crash, really high unemployment, and deflation, followed by a swift recovery.

I didn't start a daily thread today because Monday seemed like a waste of time. I actually took today off from trading and glad I did. I was feeling bullish and probably would have made bad calls all day and wasted money. Also, my broker was pulling in all margin calls within a day which could have fucked me.

I went surfing today instead.

>feelsgoodman.jpg

There will be plenty of volatility the next couple weeks. This is good for intraday trading. I suggest people getting into this to be safe but there is money to be made. Pick a strategy and stick to it; go read at investopedia.com. Remember, if you have less than $25k in your account, you can only have 3 day trades in 5 consecutive business days. I had my account frozen one time because of this.

I'll think about starting one tomorrow morning, but who knows.

Not with oil prices down. I believe NG is considered an alternative energy that needs government subsidies to really take off. And no governments have money to hand out.

Why? I've been thinking about finally opening a margin account and shorting the financials. I've always been a cash only guy but banks are spiraling into the toilet right now.

Although for the record I do agree the way the media covers it is ridiculous. The websites of major newspapers yesterday had some columnists that wrote columns like "wow, a nice gain after those last few days of bust" and then updated later in the day after the fed announced saying "now it's DOWN again? This thing is SO WACKY! I FEEL LIKE NOW IS A GOOD TIME FOR VOLATILE EMOTIONS SINCE THE MARKET HAS BEEN SOOOOOO VOLATILE FOR LESS THAN A WEEK!"

5 years from now you'll make money off of it. If you want to make money now in this volatile market, it isn't going to be holding C @ $29.

My strategy of late is playing the other side of shorters on bounces on stocks that are $1-$5. It's risky but can pay off.

NG prices have been really low for a long time, but that doesn't matter much. So many new sources of it have been found that can be extracted fairly cheaply. increased production with make up for low prices. Plus CHK has be genius with their hedging strats.

We'll see. NG is cheap (high supply and low demand) but you have to have systems that use NG. You can build power plants near landfills that harvest methane and can power significant areas. But you need a government subsidy for an idea like that to take off, really.

Really, I can't tell you what to do. If it were me, I'd probably set a limit on a loss, keep an eye on it for a couple of days, first bullish day, I'd get rid of it. You can write off up to $3000 in losses on your taxes if you itemize.

This post reminded me of a post I made a few days ago. Where I shared the following formula

GDP * CPI = VoM * MS

I think that formula is correct, but I think its associated with the austrian school. I was going to check it out on google. So I searched that formula to see what would come up, and the third listing was my own post on 4chan about it (404'd however).

Actually any thermal power plant that uses coal can use NG as well. They all just heat up water and use the steam to turn a turbine. The fuel can be anything that burns. They could pile trash in there and it would work. It just would suck to clean up.

mmmm... kind of. The combustion side is different because coal furnaces would have to be replaced to combust natural gas. I mean, technically, yes you can convert any fossil fuel plant based on the fuel type, but it would still cost money. Money that businesses are not willing to put forth right now.
