How many still unexplored islands are there? I ask because islands are powerhouses for evolution and thus a cool place for finding new species of animals and interesting fossils.

Imagine for example finding another species of great apes isolated on some remote island. Shit would be awesome!

From what I have heard there are more than 2 million islands (number is of course constantly changing over time because some islands disappear, break apart or emerge). And I can't imagine we explored (let alone digged up) each one of these islands.

none large enough to support an ecosystem that could support a full breeding population of a large mammal colony.

There are plenty of unexplored islands. Granted, all of them are known and are (usually) owned by some country. But not all of these islands have been completely investigated by biologists for new life forms.

Im reading about the sentinelese. One wikipedia article claims they have been on that island for 60,000 years. Thats crazy. I bet their genes are really crazy..

But I also read there is an estimated 250 left. Isnt that not enough to sustain a population?

>> No.3514490

Why don't we just dig where their homes are? I mean we go in there with a couple of digging machines (bulletproofed, of course) and just dig a REALLY big hole where the people are.

Naturally, the people will be annoyed. They might fight back, luckily they are no match for modern construction machines.

Eventually the people will flee, and we will follow them. Digging them out of their homes forever.

1. Yeah, he hung out with naked ladies, but he still managed to be celibate.

2. I think I remember reading this. He said the people of Europe should be non-violent. But he eventually had to come to terms with the fact that people dont have the kind of moral courage to successfully be nonviolent. So if you have three options which are

1. Non violent, non compliant
2. Violent, Non compliant
3. Non violent, compliant

Even gandhi recognized that 2 is better than 3, if the people arent morally/spiritually capable of 1. What he feared was people would become nonviolent and would go along and enable the nazis. Versus Gandhi put himself in positions where he was nonviolent, but he would have to be killed to enable the british.

1 is not the always optimum, IMO. Ghandi and everyone who thought like him would have been rounded up and sent to concentration camps by the Nazis, and Ghandi himself would certainly have been killed without accomplishing anything.

Gandhi was ahead of his time but not very impressive by today's standards.

Remember that back then almost everybody was a horrible racist, sexist etc. so you can not condemn Gandhi of just being a little better than most of his contempraries.

And Gandhi openly supported the British in their fight against Hitler which made him very unpopular among many Indians.
