In this age of CCTV and IP logging, our privacy is dwindling. Our lives are coming under increasingly close scrutiny - or at the very least, it's becoming easier and easier for anyone that cares to find out anything they want about us.

How do you feel about this violation of privacy? Would you say that it's unethical? Why, or why not? This is becoming a serious issue in the information age, and I'm curious about /sci/'s thoughts on the matter.

The violation of privacy is a bad thing when all incentives go toward abuse by organizations and individuals more powerful.

If it was a network only accessed in times of tracking a serious crime, I would have no problems. Assuming that the crime in question isn't something stupid like possessing a pound of weed.
