Stupid means both lacking intelligence or lacking common sense. You can have intelligence and lack common sense, perhaps you didn't take the multiple meanings of the word into account. You can also refer the term to a specific action and not the person as a whole, even though you use it directed at the person. Everyone does stupid things and when someone sees that they may just call you stupid and not the individual action.

seriously, I got a 800 first try, absolutely no studying...and it's not like I even feel that I accomplished something spectacular. How anyone could get less than 700 I will never understand.
