Imaginary colors are interesting.

Instructions:
1. Stare at the white dot for 1-2 minutes. The longer you stare, the more pronounced the effect will be.
2. Slowly move your head away from the screen.
3. You will see a cyan-colored halo around the red circle.

Most people have seen this sort of "illusion" before, but they don't realize how interesting it actually is. The deep cyan that is produced is actually impossible to create naturally. By overstimulating the color-receptive cones in your eyes, you are able to see these so called "imaginary" colors.

It's very unlikely that you will see these colors outside of optical illusions. They have no specific wavelength on the electromagnetic spectrum. They do no occur in nature.

Admittedly, practically all optical illusions are more interesting than this on the surface. But understanding the subtleties of this one makes it one of my personal favorites.

don't you dare that this has no equivalent wavelength. there always is. you just have to find the proper visual memory to be able to remember and find the appropriate one.

BRICKS WERE SHAT MY FRIEND.

It was a cyan circle that would stay in one place of your eye. You can look at the ground and it will be there. Then if you cover it up with your hand its gone. BUt take your hand off, and IT IS IN THE EXACT SAME PLACE.

>>Before and after what?

before and after the image gets rearranged (it's a gif, watch it)

it's actually pretty clever, a bunch of peoples' body parts get cut down along the split line enough to make an extra person from the leftover, but it's very subtle

>>3481005
He words it badly. What it is it's a "negative" color.

Normally we measure vision in terms of no light to max-color before we stop seeing. Well the light works on deltas like everything else, so when you overstimulate a certain color, it gets downregulated, and when you then view a 'normal' color, it actually has a diminished color and the other colors are amplified beyond normal capacity.

>>3481069
yes, i think it has something to do with the *perceived* intensity rather than the semantic definition of color.

Look at the bottom part. It calls it imaginary but it's better put "outside the norm" than it is imaginary.

that optical illusions is fuckin' nuts strong
I swear I thought the gif was rapidly changing from colour to grayscale just to trick me

turns out as soon as you stop focusing on the dot, it pretty much immediately "reverts" to black and white

but wow
goddamnit eyes
y u so easily played

The faces arent even to begin with. Its just playing with the brains ability to estimate information in our blind spot.
We see a guess of half the face and the differently proportionate face of the following at the same time.
