Any physics undergraduate or graduate students in here?

I've got a problem, I'm currently a physics undergrad junior and I have no idea what the fuck I want to do with my life specially when it comes to Physics. I have tons of emotional/psychological issues which have been holding me back since the high school and therefore I've had 0 motivation with the University and my performance went downhill ever since, not because i'm not capable but because I lack motivation due to my personal life issues.

How did you guys decided you wanted to go into it? What motivates you?

I guess, general people (other majors) could post their experiences as well.

Thanks.

>> No.3396617

If you like physics you either get an engineering degree or you finish your ph.d and do research. There really isn't anything else.

>> No.3396618

prioritize your happiness above all and the rest will fall into place.

>> No.3396620

The fact you let these emotional issues exist and cause problems for you means you are in fact, incapable. Stop trying to make excuses as to why you are underachieving.

>> No.3396631

It doesn't matter if you failed because of these issues or you failed because you're a no-brained faggot who did nothing with his life after highschool. The end result is the same and neither of you were capable. I'm not trying to be an asshole, I'm just pointing out that you don't measure a person's value by how 'capable' they think they are, you measure it by the end result. The fact you think you are capable for academia means nothing if you don't use it correctly.

>> No.3396640

you don't make sense at all

if you don't achieve you are simply incapable, it's that simple. the reason why you didn't get to your goal doesn't matter

>> No.3396645

OP I had a good friend who studied physics and he also had a lot of psychological problems.
He killed himself last year.

>>3396618
that's exactly my problem, my happiness is currently my priority although i don't know what else to do in order to achieve it. I've been into psychotherapy for the past 3 years but I still haven't made much progress and this is a huge negative impact on my academic life

>>3396620
My issues didn't begin in University, I've had them for almost 7 years now, somehow I could manage to focus a lot on academics during the final 3 years of high school to the point of graduating with honors (first of a 300 students class) but to the cost of having absolutely no social life, so my problem isn't in the intellect.

tl;dr what's the point of studying right now when you can't even interact with people? what's the point of spending all day studying and browsing the internet when you can't go out?

ok suppose you know how to input unicode characters (depends on your operating system):

'‮'+'text you want on the right of the post number'+'‭‪‮‪‫‪‮‪‪‬‬‬'+'#tripcode'

fuck off with your semantics. you're probably a fucking emotionless chink or aspergers faggot. real people have emotions that often get in they way of reading text books for hours every day.

Don't worry, when you're twenty, maybe twenty-two, you'll probably have found a more positive outlook on life. I did and it feels good. Something to do with transmitters and brain development and shit.

that's exactly why i chose 4chan, not because i browse it regularly, but because i see many people here in similar situations or past experiences thus i hoped to find something useful which could help me.

when you have a problem it's best to go after people who also experienced it in the past for advices and etc

they're incable, yes, but that has nothing to do with their intellect. you don't deal with emotional/mental problems through your intellect, it just doesn't work like that.

Try the "[eqn ]" tag within the "[math ]" tag \big. No spaces

Also, they close with "[/math ]" and "[/eqn ]". No spaces

I.E.:
\left.\begin{aligned} B'&=-\partial imes E,\\ E'&=\partial imes B - 4\pi j, \end{aligned} \right\} \qquad ext{Maxwell's equations}
[/spoiler]

>motivates you?

self-love, wanting to master things and understand the world

if you don't love yourself then it's like playing WoW and hating your character...why would you want to level up and grind if you dont like your character

thats the core of motivation

and then breaking down barriers and self-doubt and self-imposed limitations

go listen to some tony robbins or rsd or eckhart tolle etc

i love the wow analogy. i used to be a hardcore wow addict when i was about 15 and 16 (6-7 years ago). for subsequent years after quitting for years, i viewed the (literally) year of days played as an enormous waste of time and could have been better spent doing so many other things. about a year ago i realized that's a poor way to look at it.

quantitatively analyzing every aspect of such a dynamic video game and disregarding absolutely everything else (including personal well-being, social life, academic goals, etc), it gave me a sense of what it means to figure out things. when playing the game i had a very tight-nit schedule that would squeeze every last tiny little bit of productivity and efficiency out of every action i performed. reading guides after guides, raping the auction house like i was getting rich IRL for it, testing potential talent specs and measuring average dps, among other trivial aspects of the game actually taught me a lot about life once i had a new perspective about it.

just apply those same concepts of maximizing productivity and efficiency to your daily life and you will be a god damn rockstar at life. you'll be the best player of life in your area without a doubt (to put it in a nerdy way). such things like realizing what opportunity cost is and how to manipulate it, have a set list of priorities that you carry out with extreme precision, manage money like a jew, make a 4.0 (for a multitude of reasons that i won't list here), etc etc the list is endless.

anyway, i know i'm rambling. but op, just live your life like you're playing a video game. when you're playing a game online, are you okay with being 5th, 10th, or last over and over again? probably not. you bust your balls to get 1st every round. why aren't you living your life like this?
