OP here, the only thing i can think of is:

So when laminin is in a natural shape, it doesn't really look much like a cross. Sometimes it's a plus sign, other's it's an awkward "X", then occasionally you do get something that somewhat resembles a cross.

But if you look at a diagram of laminin, it's a for sure cross.


So let's say that if i looked at a map of the world, does this mean that Earth is for sure flat? But though when i look at a globe which represents Earth in it's natural shape, it's definitely not flat.

Well the basic cross shape is formed by a long A chain and two B chains. However the B chains spiral around the A chain, which looks more like the Caduceus than anything else.

Wow I read the wiki page when I read the start of your post expecting something serious and interesting related to evolution of the protein or something.
