Of all the things you could be doing, why science?

Everything else sucks. Business is just playing around with monopoly money and trying to extort everything and everyone for what its worth. Art is cool, but it is difficult to survive financially doing it unless you are the best of the best, same with writing. Just about everything besides that is something more meaningless than handling money, like trying to sell people shit they don't need or making fatasses food because they have enough money to pay somebody to do it for them. Science gets things done. Everything else is just playing around.

Science is work and its boring and repetitive

Why dont you have fun with your life ?

>> No.3352613

Like any other young peer pursuing a science-related degree. My ego got the better of me. Also it's something that I'm good at and that I enjoy doing.I also feel like I'm doing actual work that will benefit something, not just pushing money around.

as a highschoolfag i thought chemistry was fucking badass

as a professional chemist, even more so

On paper that sounds cool.

But what percentage of scientists actually do something groundbreaking?

Then how long after that is that thing still cool?

ITS POINTLESS

>> No.3352654

>>3352584
how do you do that and make decent money

>> No.3352665

>>3352630
That may be so, but science is far less pointless than any other job. What do you do when you work at a bank? You count money. Every day. When you work at a restaurant (no matter how fancy)? Make food, every day, or give people food, every day. Office? Type shit up, print shit out, every day. The only job that isn't so monotonous is being a crazy ass artist or musician or something, and the percentage of successful artists, i would assume, are far fewer than scientists who make relatively important discoveries. The people who do "important" things in business usually do nothing but line their, or their company's, pockets with (more) gold. And I must say, there are far better uses for gold than putting in pockets. Alas, the world has more dipshits than anything else.

*looks over at the vault of medical technology available now*

and I'm not even looking at the rest of everything else behind me.

you think just one person does something and takes credit? rarely does that happen. one person may be made famous for it, but lots of people work hard and see some results, and eventually do something cool they can all share.

so it's the whole freaking team who takes turns riding the dinosaur

Applied science > science

by applied science, do you mean engineering?

>> No.3352698

>>3352584

Science is fun too. Depends on what you think it's "fun". I find every single branch of science fascinating. Yes, even human sciences.

>> No.3352707

>>3352696
No I dont mean engineering. I mean doing things with science.

Not just doing the boring shit like testing and experiments etcccc

>> No.3352732

>>3352707

you will never ride the dinosaur

repeat after me I WILL NEVER RIDE THE DINOSAUR

enjoy your 9 to 5 workaday dilbertish gay ass office job where you deskmate shits his pants every day so you smell like ass when you come home, faggot

>not testing or experimenting
>still doing things with science
sure sounds like engineering to me

>> No.3352739

>>3352707
Well that's pretty vague. And
>etcccc
certainly reminds me of the way most of the more idiotic highschoolers type. Experimentation is fundamental to the scientific method. Without it you are not doing science.

because as a geologist/environmental scientist i get to go places and do cool shit and rarely have to interact with people...camping in the Badlands on a geological strata field trip during a thunderstorm...my gosh it's almost enough to make one religious...almost...
pic unrelated..but it's humorous, ...oh and it makes britfags butthurt
