Look buddy, /sci/ isn't about turning our noses up at people who believe differently. Sure maybe a lot of us think that creationists are stupid as fuck, but they're not hurting anyone just by believing something. Your elitism regarding your own beliefs and arrogant presumption that we all feel the exact same way you do leads only to one conclusion:

You, sir, are the asshole.

When did /sci/ become a bunch of useless idiots? Flippant disregard for logic, science, truth, and everything else creationism poises itself against is definitely a harm in society, and as part of the economy of ideas we have a responsibility to promote objectivity, critical thinking, intellectual honesty and so forth or else we may as well have no values at all on this count. Here it's not reducible to mere "disagreement with me" bullshit or unnecessary elitism, it's just plain righting wrongs.

Why should others likewise decline to do what you won't do? Why should people be protected from being told they're wrong, or even better yet, explained to how they're wrong? Why shouldn't people be engaged in conversation about things they disagree about? When it's based on a belief that they've been tuaght their whole life it's pointless to argue.

No such thing as objectivity exists in humans. What we've discovered has ended up objective and disinterested in the feelings of those it affects, but the humans who practice it are not and will never be objective.

Your job is improving life through whatever it is mathematicians and scientists do. Everything else will fall in place.

Harriet, I can't find a single sensible statement in all of your posts. Not a single one. So answer me honestly, are you doing this for laughs? That (1) religion isn't the only source of harm in the world, that (2) religion is also a source and inspiration for good within communities, and that (3) religion can be exploited for already existing ulterior motives does not change the fact that the major flaws and defects in organized religion have been a major and marked source and enabler of suffering and stifling of benevolent human nature. Apathy for this problem is either callous or ignorant.

Tell me what my job is but don't justify it? You won't get far with me with that attitude.

The "live and let live" concept is also pernicious in this context. When you set up an equivalence between (a) engaging people on topics of disagreement with (b) not letting them "live" (i.e. harassing them), you've demonstrated a very warped perception of the situation.

Asking others to be as apathetic about hot issues as you are for no good reason is not a sensible position to take. I can see the merits of addressing the incivility or ostensible futility of the debate as it typically manifests, but there's no reason to tell people not to have a conversation simply because you think it's annoying or whatever you feel it is. I'm not asking people to go out of their way to "police" this crap, too.

I don't even care if the original post was a troll.
