This is the typical modernist's view. If you knew about postmodernist ontology, you would realise why Tim Minchin is incorrect. Because Western dictums are extrapolated in a hierarchical linguistic form, medicine is effectively predicated upon a power process. Eastern Medicine is results oriented (pun intended) but instead of relying upon a modernist perspective is actually postmodern due to it being based upon assumed efficacy and trust. Results are recorded after-the-fact thus escaping the cycle of review/fallibility and eschewing any need to explore hypotheses.

The West is gradually turning its head around to the East and I believe the current economic growth in China is partly due to the disestablishment of (Western) hierarchical modernist principles.

Medical research relies on and tests falsifiable hypotheses. Do you know why they conduct clinical trials?
"assumed efficacy and trust" could be more accurately applied to Eastern medicine, whose effects are post hoc rationalizations at best. And maybe you should focus on passing that introductory philosophy class you're taking, or reading AdBusters.

Don't dismiss things like traditional chinese medicine too quickly. Remember, it is trial and error over millennia which came up with all the solutions found in nature, so don't knock it. Traditional medicine should be looked at the same way as the millions of species in the world; a cornucopia of possibly good ideas which should be researched to be understood scientifically. (Of course, a big chunk is probably also bullshit like homeopathy, masking symptoms at best and placebos at worst.)
