Any britfags here?

Choosing my A-Levels for September. What should I go with?

Currently thinking about:

Psychology, Critical Thinking, General Studies, Applied Science

What did you do for A-Levels?

>> No.3107850

Youre 15/16 years old

>> No.3107846

It doesn't matter, A-levels are just a speed bump on the way to your phd. I did English lang and lit, History, Maths and Biology and ended up with a degree in Chemistry.

Also, if your not doing real science, why are you asking /sci/?

Don't listen to this guy.. the subjects you chose are very important as you won't get into a good uni on the course you want, unless you are studying the subjects they want you to be doing.

Dunno about critical thinking, general studies or applied science but those will give you lots of options. Psychology, from what I've heard from friends, is actually quite boring

I chose Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Product Design and im going to Birmingham to study Physics in september

>> No.3107902

>>3107891

>birmingham

oh boy you must have done shit.

>> No.3107908

Hahahaha you will have to pay £9000 per year for uni.
No, those are shit A-levels.
I do Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computing.
Choose proper subjects, 5 if you can be bothered with the work.

Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry is a solid combo and will get you pretty much anywhere.

>> No.3107910

Yo OP are you mentally retarded?

Real men take Maths, Further Maths, Physics then any 2 from Chemistry, Economics, History, Biology, Computing or a Modern language

>> No.3107911

If you're looking into a degree in science, take math, it's a prerequisite for almost everything science related so you don't have to waste a year on foundation studies.

Not a britfag, but I took my A-Levels in Law, Economics and Sociology. I screwed up by not taking math. So take math.

Except you need a chemistry a-level to do chemistry at uni

Even doing physics A-level without maths can be difficult though, you'd have to take extra classes to catch up with things like logarithms.

>> No.3107948

>>3107918

No.. at the time i applied i had 2As and 2Bs so my grades werent good enough to apply there. Now if i repeat my performances in the final modules i will get A*A*A

>> No.3107976

>>3107912

Except no you don't. You can switch courses easily once you've been accepted, my degree was originally in bio, I switched to chem during the first term.

>> No.3107986

You should move to Scotland and do 5 Highers so you get a grounding in a lot of different subjects then do the 3 subjects Advanced Highers that you would have done at A-Level.

English students at my uni seem to be under educated in a lot of general knowledge. For example they know plenty chemistry and materials but they start uni with no prior experience of electronics or software because their A-Levels were maths, physics and chemistry.

There are also plenty of them that are downright illiterate because they didn't study English past GCSE.

>> No.3108009

I did

Music Tech which was awesome
English language which was surprisingly interesting
Media studies which was fun
Business which just bored me

But i was an exchange student and could give fuck all what i chose.

I'm torn as well /sci/, should I go for Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Biology or Maths, Physics Chemistry and Biology as I really enjoy both however the place I'm attending doesn't cater to Maths, Further Maths and Physics.

First year at University of Bristol here.
I went with maths/further maths/physics/chemistry, but dropped chem after the first year.

I would have done maths/maths/physics/music tech, but FM conflicted with music..

protip: you only need three to get in to anywhere that isn't oxbridge/LSE/imperial/warwick*, and hell, I didn't even wanna go to those places really. sounded too much like hard work, at every stage..

*maths only..

I'd go with three things that you're interested in most, it doesn't really matter, though Maths is required for most science/engineering and FM is liked..
and it also depends on the tier of university you want to go to. better uni = pick subjects more carefully to course.

UWE lets ANYBODY in to anything.

Psychology, Critical Thinking, General Studies, Applied Science

Cool troll.

Critical Thinking is practically useless
General Studies is LITERALLY useless (seriously Universities will ignore it none count it as an actual A-level).

Applied Science, LOL

Come on are you being serious. If you're thinking of pursuing Psychlogy you should be thinking about subjects like Maths, Biology would be a good help for university applications. Subjects like that that show you're a good scientific logical thinker.

>> No.3108345

Do maths.

Shit's easy bro.
Also, critical thinking is easier than shitting, but a lot of unis don't accept it as a proper subject.
Do maths, do further maths if you're good at maths, do philosophy because unis like it because you need to be intelligent to do well in it.

No you don't. You see how the background of /sci/ is automatically set to "Yotsuba B"? That means it's a worksafe board and anyone of any age can post there.

the way you are expected to do it is learn yourself from the past papers with the mark schemes.

all available from the STEP site, which you can google.

only necessary if you are doing maths though.

I did: chemistry, physics, biology and maths.

OP i suggest you do the same and drop the idea of those joke subjects immediately. I'm not trying to be a snob or elitist but, psychology is dummed down biology, and the rest arent even worth mentioning.

if you pick the subjects you mentioned you arent going anywhere
