Sup /sci/?

I have a long term goal of making LSD at some point. The internet tells me it's difficult and I need cool equipment and skills. Any tips on what to start with so that I can learn these cool skills? I am not a chemist at all, so starting out fresh.

TL;DR: I want to do chemistry. What do?

What ever you do, don't think about spiders all over your face!

Stop doing drugs, if you like chemistry go study and create new pharmaceuticals in stead of wasting lives.

It is extremely difficult if you can't start from ergotamine tartrate, which is found in some anti-migraine drugs.

Unless you are willing to go to university and understand the organic processes don't do it
Average Joe's think they can make proper drugs and end up dealing inferior and often dangerous chemicals

Back in my Aus chem unit we made TNT and aspirin which covers the basics

I hope this is a troll.

why would you think that?

Apparently you think it is waste of life to seek spiritual fulfillment, or to simply be entertained by a fun chemical.

Apparently you also think that pharmaceuticals are not a waste of life.

OP here.

What are easy chemistry things to start with that I can do at home without poisoning myself or setting fire to the building, etc?

I am interested in looking into chemistry as a hobby and I became intrigued with the idea of producing LSD as it is supposedly difficult and it would be interesting to set it as a goal. I would not be able to sell stuff or such things as I don't really know who to sell it to and I would probably just end up in jail instead.

I've never done drugs of that kind and finishing my master in civil engineering (inb4 gay stuff) at the moment.

We did have some chemistry during my first year, but it was all theory and it would really provide me with very little today.

Point being that I don't consider myself as a person who waste lives.

If I get a hold of the anti-migrane stuff it become easy? Or just easier?

Q. At what point does a drug become bad for you?
A. Once it becomes fun

>> No.3101064

LSD from ergotamine is conceptually really simple (PCl5 and diethylamine, or use any other peptide coupling reagent).

The problem comes with the separation of the product, and the fact that LSD is a really fragile, photosensitive molecule.

But OP, if you want to do this then a chemistry degree is your best bet. You won't have much success if you set out with the sole goal of making drugs, but after 4 years studying chemistry the ability to make a lot of drugs and explosives, with the appropriate precursors, will be comfortably within your reach.

Q. At what point does a drug become bad for you?
A. When the Daily Mail says so

Fixed. The Daily Mail approves of alcohol and caffeine, which are fun for some people.

well caffeine isn't exactly fun, just makes you feel more alert. its like a drug with a purpose, rather than just a fun-drug like alcohol etc.

Not a troll, biochemist who understands what happens with your body the minute the drugs reaches the appropriate receptors. Some compounds are better left out off the body

Oh and let's not forget the people killed by synthetic cannabinoids (marinol) whilst natural ones were banned.

But hey, pharmaceuticals don't cause a waste of life. Nope, it's them nasty drugs that waste lives.
