Back to the original debate with this picture, I think we can all agree that philosophy is the "purest" of all academic pursuits. Even math has to assume its axioms, but philosophers are forced to defend even the most basic assumptions.

Usefulness of fields is a different and almost entirely opposite heirarchy.
