the nobel prize is awarded years after the discovery is made and has proven it's value to science. it's just as easy making these kind of decisions about biology as it is with say chemistry.

anyway, important biological discoveries normally gets awarded chemistry or physiology/medicine. it's probably worse for other scientific branches, like maths... or earth sciences.

Biology is next to useless for the advancement of mankind.
Beyond agriculture (which nowadays is mostly limited by industrial fertilizer production and by hydrogeology/meteorology anyways), there's pretty much nothing useful about it.

Depends on what you mean by biology. Developers of molecular biology techniques and such, often only slightly related to medical uses, get awarded Nobel Prizes in Medicine or Chemistry all the time.
