It is Cold Fusion and has been proven to work in a grey box scenario.

Future of our energy (easier than thorium and fusion/hybrid)?

>> No.3020162

Fake, they refuse to show the inside of the apparent "reactor", even though they've filed some generic, vague bullshit patent for it. All of the tests that have been done show only hypothetical energy output, and they never put the apparatus under any sort of load. (as in, energy consumption) All of the physicists that have commented on it either said they can't really make a statement because they cannot examine the device, or say "HURR DURR IT'S A NUCLEAR REACSHION OVERUNITY!!!!!!1", in which case they have absolutely no credibility and were obviously paid by the 'inventor' of said device.

You failed the hurrdurr test.

In March 29, 2011 two Swedish physicists, Hanno Essén, associate professor of theoretical physics and a lecturer at the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology and former chairman of the Swedish Skeptics Society and Sven Kullander, Professor Emeritus at Uppsala University and also chairman of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences’ Energy Committee, participated as observers in a test of a smaller version of the Energy Catalyzer.[15] The test ran for six hours and the calculated energy produced was about 25 kWh. [16] In their report [17] they write "Any chemical process should be ruled out for producing 25 kWh from whatever is in a 50 cubic centimeter container. The only alternative explanation is that there is some kind of a nuclear process that gives rise to the measured energy production." According to Mats Lewan of the Swedish technology magazine Ny Teknik[16], they were given a sample of the nickel powder used in the unit as well as some Rossi says have been used for 2.5 months; analysis showed the unused powder was pure nickel while the used powder contained 10 percent copper and 11 percent iron, although iron production is not mentioned anywhere in the patent[18]. They prefaced their discussion in the report with a disclaimer: "Since we do not have access to the internal design of the central fuel container and no information on the external lead shielding and the cooling water system we can only make very general comments."

Looking interesting! We will see after this;

Rossi has announced an agreement with the newly formed Greek company Defkalion Green Technologies as his first client.[28][29] According to Rossi, the agreement calls for delivery of a one megawatt heating plant, consisting of 300 reactors of 4 kW [16] connected in series and parallel. The plant which would supply heating for Defkalion's own purposes only, is supposed to be inaugurated in October 2011. [30]
Rossi says he will not be paid by Defkalion until the installation is delivered and works.[31] The company’s spokesman Symeon Tsalikoglou has confirmed the agreement.[32][33]
Defkalion has also been featured on national Greek television [34][35] and in the national business newspaper Ependitis. [36] According to Defkalion and Rossi the agreement gives exclusive rights for Defkalion to manufacture and sell the energy catalyzer throughout Greece.[32]

I'm really skeptical.

I thought inventing "cold fusion" would have made bigger ruckus than it has done by now. It still lacks the acceptance of big masses, without them it's just pseudoscience.

Not saying "hurrdurr fuck you", I just think something stinks about whole this shit. Web pages confirming this technology are quite.. suspicious and they make me think people like creationists and their "proofs" about their own things.

I'll remain skeptic unitl it's verified for real.

It looks promising, but too early to bring out the champagne.

Now of course if it is real it's a gamechanger for the energy business, nickel and hydrogen are both abundant and very materials, iron pipes are very cheap too, the catalyst shouldn't be a problem unless it's made of platinum doped diamond or something other ridiculous as it's not consumed. Energy generation would be revolutionized in the most spectacular way possible if this turns out to be real.

Just did the math and the hypothetical nuclear reactions it could be. Even if you can get past the words "cold fusion" a little bit of investigation shows that it's bullshit... The only viable reaction transmuting Nickel into Copper with Hydrogen would have to be done by fusing deuterium. For them to measure that much energy output, it would have to be enriched deuterium (which is expensive and sort of hard to come by). Even then, they'd be producing normal hydrogen as a by product. BTW, I'm a nuclear engineer, just for some background.

Pic is the reaction I think it would be

The energy catalyzer is a fucking hoax, just like Fleischmann and Pons in 1986

Anyone who has even a small amount of knowledge in nuclear physics will realize the conditions required to do what he is claiming and know that it is not only impossible, but fucking retarded

The heat required (which is an average of the kinetic energy of the particles) to fuse hydrogen or any other hydrogen isotope together is about 120 MILLION kelvin (although fusion reactors actually go to up to 500 million to compensate for the lower density). The kinetic energy required by the nuclei of hydrogen and nickel to fuse would be about 28 times higher, which when taking into account the increased density would mean a temperature of something like 200 million kelvin, far higher then room temperature which he is claiming to do it at.

The guy is a con artist, he claims to have invented something but will not say how it works. Also he hasn't been peer reviewed, because all scientific journals realize that it is fake and wont even bother publishing it

It’s mostly a routine ‘perpetual motion machine’ grift, the first showing felt exactly like one, the lead around, the “security promotions”, the “select” guests, all about psyching things up with out actual content.
The only thing different was the fact I was reading it on the internet in an article that didn’t get the trick.
The PMM grift typically depends on getting the mark to swear to secrecy so they won’t get feed back from more knowledgeable people, and then after you’ve gotten the money they stay quiet to avoid the humiliation so you are free to work the next mark.
That they are doing this in public and are apparently trying to exploit the hype takes balls of steal and must be chasing one fucking hell of a mark.

>> No.3021567

Eh, depends on the reaction rate and the subsequent activity of the 59Cu. He could possibly be exposed (and subsequently be dying, but you wouldn't know without the exact "reaction" the reactants undergo and the reaction rate of the device). Beta decay is surprisingly common and not that harmful. Besides, a little radiation never hurt anyone (emphasis on little).
