Why do people think that the polar ice caps melting is a bad thing? Just because it has a negative impact on animals such as polar bears does not mean it has a negative impact on everything else.

We need more water. There are droughts causing people to die all over the world. This water serves a much better purpose if it can be consumed by a human being than it does when frozen in an uninhabited area of Earth.

It may cause sea levels to rise, but this effect can be countered. There is a finite amount of water on Earth. Any excess water can be stored on land in a manner that prevents it from being evaporated and returning to the atmosphere.

Your thoughts?

I like polar bears.

The icecaps would melt into the ocean which is high in salinity it vastly larger than the amount of water frozen in the ice caps.

>We need more water.
No we don't.

> There are droughts causing people to die all over the world.
Only because they choose to live hundreds of miles away from fresh water which is abundant.

Isn't there some evidence / worry that a decrease in the salinity of the oceans from the rise in fresh water content could shut down some major ocean currents that would cause half of Europe to freeze?

Truth. Humans are somehow scared of change these days, it's fucking nuts.

Basically, same goes with that oil accident by BP. Nature doesn't care about that, there will be forms of life eating that oil, it will vanish and nature will flourish again after enough time has passed. It is only us who is really affected.

The earth is a very sensitive and balanced eco-system. A change as drastic as all the polar ice caps melting would change the salinity, level, and temperature of the ocean, resulting in detrimental and catastrophic consequences.

you're too stupid to discuss this

I'm actually pro global warming. I think higher global temperatures will produce more livable biomes all over the place, and really sort of "boost mother nature's odds" against humanity. We're still in a mini-ice age, after all, and warmer climates are more conducive to life.

More water, more heat- I think it will result in more animals and more life and a better world after nature takes its course.

So you're okay with global warming since it will only probably kill all the people on the planet. Okay then.

or a troll. When polar ice caps melt, the freshwater mixes with ocean salt water; it doesn't mean there will be more water for us.

As for "countering" sea level rise with land water storage - even more retarded (try doing the math).
