Hey /sci/, do you think a completely secularized global society would be statistically siginificantly less prone to acts of war or not?

Also, on a semi-related note, anyone where played Inifinite Ocean?

No, the west is a secular society mostly and wars happen all the time, the only reason the president mentions god in his speeches is because 'YOU CAN'T PROVE THAT HE DOESN'T EXIST!!!!'

Isn't that panel just ripping off a flash parody game called "bang"?

Less war, more conspiracies, more state sponsored survellience, manipulation.

All in all, you're looking at a police state.

God replaced by technology, its what atheists always want.

I didn't imply wars out be eliminated, I asked if there would be a statistically siginifant difference.

It's from the "Making XKCD slightly worse" thread, it's a combination of two different strips.

Is Infinite Ocean that series with the dolphin?
Also, no; secularism would assist with peace, but not nearly as much as getting rid of the obvious problem would. The obvious problem being the human race, obviously.

No, it's a text heavy sci-fi point and click escape game about AIs and sentience. I strongly recommend it.

Well, personally, I believe religion is usually just a pretext to other societal needs like resources or concubines.

Given certain wars may justifiably be called religious once, I can't rationally believe there wouldn't be other wars to replace those, such as secular soccer fights or somefin'.

But a mostly secularized society might also promote sociental changes detrimental to the conditions required for war to arise?

>> No.2984523

Wars will be wages as long as there is profit to be made from it. Theology is just a way to easily coax public opinion. A completely secular world would still have to manage its greed.

woops, I meant waged.

>>2984517
religions have tried to do that for quite awhile. Some how society has never really cared to follow the scriptures either.

Why would secular laws be any more adhereable than religious?

>> No.2984575

Imposing laws aren't the only way, nor the most effective way to facilitate social change. I was thinking more in terms of attitudes towards things like education and social equality, to pick a few examples.
