Hi /sci/mitar,
What is your major and why did you choose it?

>> No.2943559

CS because I love computation and also I want to develop intelligent robots to exterminate mankind.

>> No.2943601

Physics because I want to answer metaphysical questions, about life and the universe, etc.
doesnt look like those questions are going to be answered before i die though

>> No.2943639

Engineering because I don't want to starve or be a teacher or other poorfag.

Engineering because I like applied science.

Also because I love dick.

Because I am a hippy communist man who hates money and banks and I wanted to add credibility to my stupid ideas.

>most people are hippy communist men

Shit, my respect for the field of economics just went up but a fuckton.

>> No.2944124

>>2944103

I dont know why I lied so much. I was like double joking.

I dont think there are a bunch of hippy communists in economics. My peers arent a bunch of bankers or anything. Its pretty in the middle, with people mostly feeling that free markets are good, except when they dont work. How often they fail is kind of a matter of opinion.

Im a bit of a hippy myself.

Anyway, sorry for misleading you. But I do think your response was funny.

neuro major math minor

I like the brain? and math?

>> No.2944241

>>2944131

I wasnt really implying that. But among my peers growing up there are definitely an amount of people who could be heard uttering something along the lines of...

"Man... I dont know... like... money is just bad... man.. I dont want the money"

>>2944149

Ive only known one randian economist at my university, and he was a cynical old man.

I think there are an amount of business students who are just rich kids who have no soul and got into business just because its an easy choice to. Of the economists who are like that, I dont think they are paying attention enough to even refer to themselves as randian or anything.

But, I dont think they are the majority. I have seen some of the opposite. People who arent really communists, but very good natured, gandhi-like and just want to work to serve society.

CS+CpE double major + Japanese minor
CS because it's what I'm good at.
CpE because it goes well with CS and at my school has enough courses in common where it's easy enough to achieve
Japanese minor because I'm a weeaboo as shit and what Japanese I learned already makes every Japanese class I took so far some of the easiest A's I ever earned. Might as well get another academic credential for stuff I would be learning and doing on my own time anyway. Also it fools some idiots into thinking I'm well-rounded or something.

Where'd you study Econ?

>> No.2944293

I study at Arizona State University WP Carey school of business

>> No.2944296

Mech E with a minor in EE.

I chose it because my school doesn't offer aerospace and I found chemical and civil to be boring. Mechanical is broad enough to where I can do grad school for aerospace and the EE minor covers the most important parts of the major (circuit design).

Plus, I'm far too stupid to do a pure science major.

>> No.2944302

Doublemajor in maths and physics
Minor in latin and classic greek

>> No.2944311

>>2944293

I study at UMass Amherst. Im not sure about your school in particular, but a lot of school's Econ programs have been Hijacked into following conservative tenets. IE: Supplyside (Reaganomics) is an actual/valid economy booster/Reduction in civil programs to maintain the efficiency of the working class/Balanced taxes on all members regardless of pay. This kind of shit makes me puke, Im not sure if your school fits into that jargon but I know Columbia and a few others have delineated heavily from what Economics used to be to a corporate tool for scumbag rich people.

Communism doesn't hate money, In fact it embraces it in many ways as it is the primary motivator to WORK, not tell others to work and get paid more for it.

>> No.2944336

>>2944311

What do you study?

Something I feel weird about is the discrepency between my studies and my personal conversations about economics like on 4chan.

People like to argue, and criticize using terms like neoclassical, or new trade theory, or supply side, or austrian, or keynesian. In none of my classes have we ever used those terms. People might take that as an opportunity to say my education is crap or I go to a stupid school, but I dont. My school is pretty respected.

I mean, Im sure as I progress in my education we will start talking about these things. But I get the impression people ascribe to schools of economic thought, only when they dont actually understand the real fundamental science of economics to begin with.

So, when you say stuff like, economics has been "hijacked" I cant really agree or disagree, because I dont really feel like opinion has entered into my education at all.

>> No.2944345

>>2944302

Wow, thats cool. Any overlap between your majors and minors?

You really didnt go over the different principles of thought in Macro econ 103? or whatever number... Im an econ major dude.... sorry to cut our conversation though I have to run. Maybe you will sophomore year... perhaps your school is a little diff. Unless you are a res econ major... which is a different philosophy. Anyways gluck.

They are armchair economists and stormfags who pick and choose that kind of terminology to support their view that all blacks and jews should be incinerated or whatever.
