Satanism is about worshiping yourself, using the satan archetype as an ideal of the highest type of being. It's hardly synonymous with Atheism, which at it's best denies the existence of a higher authority figure that created and controls your life, and at it's worst is indifferent or contemptuous of anything outside of the materialistic realm.

I really, really get annoyed about the lack of knowledge about Satan, Lucifer, and Evil.

Lucifer was a prideful Archangel who rebelled against God and fell from Glory. He does not tempt mankind.

Satan is God's prosecutor, he does not reside in hell and completely obeys God. He tempts mankind to prove who is not worthy of the kingdom of Heaven.

Neither is the embodiment of all that is evil, a sort of "Anti-God" that is all but equal to God. That is an idea from Zoroastrianism, where the Darkness, Angra Mainyu, is the complete opposition to the Light, Ahura Mazda.
It is not Abrahamic at all, where the armies of hell are weak and powerless before the might of the Lord.

As in the story of Jesus driving a group of demons away from people. They said "Oh son of God, you have not come to cast us into Hell, have you?" to which he said "No, your time has not come yet. Now go." And he sent them into a herd of pigs which then plunged off a cliff in a fit of demonic craziness.

The point being that since the demons had to destroy something, it was better they take out a herd of pigs (an unclean animal) than humans.
