Sorry to bother you with this /sci/, but this is something I have wondered about for a long time and I figured you guys would know. What would happen if you cut a hole in one of these electricity balls and turned it on? Would electricity shoot out of the hole, or would it cease to function? I will delete this thread once I have an answer.

My great grandfather used to catch lightning inside these things. You'd leave a bunch of them out on a field or on top of a house during a thunderstorm and when lightning hit, they'd charge up. Don't even need to hit the balls directly.

Those were the old days though. Nowadays they mass produce them in factories and use careful instruments to tune and fire electricity into the ball to charge it up. Better mass production and more efficient.

Man, being a "lightning" farmer back in them days must've been quite something. People'd probably think you were some kinda crazy smart lunatic like Tesla.

inside they have noble gases at low pressure if you cut a hole in it air will get in and it won't work
