He may have a mild form of mania, but he's exaggerating it for attention. By what basis do you assume he has bipolar disorder not just flat-out mania?

Its a mix of mania and just general attention whoring. I thought he was clean from coke for a while and detoxing can have drastic effects on the brain.

He could very well have unipolar mania, but his behavior leads me to doubt this. His incoherent speech, tendency to aggressively interrupt others, and substance abuse problems (among other things) cause me to believe that he will eventually crash/cycle into a depression.

Right now I believe his synapses are firing on overdrive and a human brain can only take so much excitement. One day, possibly very soon, I think his overworked synapses will stop firing... hence the depressive phase.

Everything you described characterizes mania, not bipolar disorder.

Unless you have taken antipsychotics you are in no position to say that. I tell you from experience that being on antipsychotics is one of the worst experiences one can possibly have. All day you can't focus and have no drive and have a nagging sensation that something is "off" and you can't determine what it is. You are too tired and apathetic to move, your sex drive is nonexistent, and you tend to seclude yourself from any interactions with the outside world. I wouldn't wish it on anybody, regardless of the risks associated with not being medicated.

Addictively prone people need a mask in order to live with themselves, in addition to whatever substance will quiet the bad things in their heads. antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, SSRI's, MAOI's, tiycyclics, benzodiazepines, psychostimulants, hypnotics, etc...

They don't generally prescribe antipsychotics for mania or bipolar disorder. They prescribe mood stabilizers such as lithium or valproic acid.

They don't know what causes depression but they do know depressed people have "depressed" synapses... as in they transfer less neurotransmitters. With mania they produce and transfer too much neurotransmitters.

First of all, "insanity" is a legal term. It is not used in psychology.

Second of all, you've clearly never been around a manic/bipolar person. They talk nonstop, skillfully, and with great wit. They do this because their brains are lit up like a Christmas tree. Charlie fits the bill of a maniac/bipolar disorder suffer to a T.

Obviously, I can't be certain that he has either of these conditions, but I can certainly make an educated guess. Sheen's Korner is on par with an actual diagnostic session in a clinic. You get to observe his behavior, which is what psychology is based on... The study of human and animal behavior.

Short of sitting down with him in a clinic and giving him an actual Rorschach test watching his antics on TV or on the internet is as good as it gets...
