Hey /sci/,

I just got my first Calculus book in the mail. Don't want to sound like a fag with an undeserved sense of self importance. But i feel pretty good looking through these pages.

Any words of advice?

You sound like a fag with an undeserved sense of self importance.

That's my advice

Your anus....

Prepare it.

Just wait till you get to differentiation.

I got AP credit for it, felt unconfident, took it again in college, we get to differentiation and I'm like "nigger what is this".

I've gotten A's on everything, but I still feel retarded.

I wonder if smart people feel dumb, and dumb people feel smart?

The countries with the highest math scores ranked lowest in confidence, while the countries with the lowest math scores ranked highest in confidence with America in the lead.

DUNNING-KRUGER EFFECT. ONCE SMART PEOPLE HAVE LEARNED AND MASTER WHAT IS EASY, THEN THEY SEE IT AS NORMAL ANHEDONICALLY (WITHOUT EMOTION, IN THIS CASE TRIUMPH) AND IDIOTS LEARNING FEEL SUCCESSFULL WHEN THEY LEARN ONLY A PART.

Dumb people feel smart more often than smart people do.

Take psychology next semester. It'll blow your mind.

OP here, not saying looking though the pages feeling confident that i will do well. I'm saying that "this is what real math is". I always felt that the math i was studying was useful is select examples, but not really conducive to the real world. Calculus IS the math of the real world.

calc is so low level though..

I am taking AP calculus in high school and to be honest it's really fucking hard. However, even though I'm getting a bad grade I still feel a sense of accomplishment because this can actually be applied to the real world. All the other high school math classes were useless shit.

Anyways, I'm almost done with the class and my advice is to MEMORIZE EVERY FORMULA HAVING TO DO WITH RELATED RATES.

Keep your head down OP or else people will slam it down.

Nothing like working on something hard to make you feel like a complete dumbass and show you how little you know.

[Seriously, how the hell does the fractional quantum Hall effect work?]

How can you say all other high school math is useless while taking calculus? If you hadn't learned all that "useless" math, you would not be able to do even the simplest calculus operations.

related rates was like deriving lxw and pythagorean theorem so what formulas are you talking about?

I am such a good troller.

I derailed the thread by subtly imply the Dunning-Krueger Effect, then 10 smart asses take OP's shit off the rails for me.

Well done, sci, well done.

He already mentioned how terrible he is doing in his class. Personally, I wouldn't listen to a word he says.
